3.Not so Fast...check these key variables before choosing:

A) Ensure a safe fit & distance from the fire

• Apart from keeping your child away from the hot fire – a  great benefit of our baby fireguard is that it prevents your child from the hard surface of the hearth/ plinth. You’re going to want to choose a size that sits outside the hearth – not on it, so your child cannot become injured on the hearth.

• Overheating: We recommend thinking about the distance to the fire carefully. The baby fireguard should firstly not be close enough to the stove or fire that your child can reach through the vertical bars and touch the fire or stove from any side. Usually above 40cm is too far for a baby up to 2 years of age is enough. Furthermore, as fireguards are metal in construction, you should consider the possibility of the fireguard overheating on every panel both front and sides. Each fire/stove is different and the temperature from home to home can vary depending on the power of the stove and the strength of the fire as well as the length of time the fireguard is exposed to heat. As a precautionary measure in our instruction manual, we mention the distance from a stove should be 75cm, and the distance from an open fire should be 90cm. However, in many cases, this distance is not needed and is not even possible due to space limitations and in some situations, more than 75cm is required! It is the responsibility of the user to check the fireguard both initially and regularly to make sure the gate is not overheating. If you discover that your fireguard is becoming too hot stop using it immediately and look at extensions from Babasafe to increase the distance. Many parents do not use their fire at all and simply wish to protect from the sharp and hard corners of the hearth and fireplace and stove. Furthermore, the fireplace area can be a dusty and dirty area and parents may wish to simply block this area off. If this is the case, you may find that going for the closest size possible is fine provided the fire is not lit.

B) Brackets:

• Please note the brackets on each side add an extra 5 cm if required and can be fitted at various straight and 90 degree angles for example at the front or side of the chimney breast. Perfect if you do not have space on each side of your hearth on the front of the chimney breast. (Note: the bracket will fit at a 90-degree angle but not less than a 90 degree)

• You must have at least 4.5cm space on each side of your hearth to fit the brackets plates. Some homes hearth’s are the same width as the chimney breast so this space is not available. In that case, the brackets are designed to rotate so you can fit them at the side of the chimney breast but be sure your side panel can reach back far enough! This also increases your width requirements by 4.5cm on each side.

• The bracket mounts are 5cm deep,  4.5 wide cm x 43 high, and the start is 34cm from the floor. So your skirting must not be higher than 34cm and cannot protrude more than 5cm….The same goes for things like gas valves or pipes etc.

4. Finally…

• Don’t worry our fireguard is configurable so later if you decide you need to make it larger or smaller extension are available from Babasafe at any point.

Wall Brackets

Anti-Climb Wall brackets: Designed so that a foothold is not possible to avoid the climbing hazard.The wall brackets on the Multifit are positioned above the skirting towards the top of the gate. The brackets are super durable to withstanding impacts from adults and children alike

Quick Release : Remove from the wall in seconds with quick release buttons. ( the cover of the wall bracket can also be slid off so that only the wall plate remains)

Extra Strong : wall brackets are 5cm deep. Wall plates are 4.5cm x 45cm and are fitted starting from 34cm from the floor running all the way up to the top of the gate.

Fold up & put away in seconds.

Quick release in seconds and fold up flat when not in use: The gate has a baby proof but quick release bracket system operated making it extremely easy to dismantle. Loosen the hinge locks and fold it up neatly for storage under a bed or in a cupboard.

Please note not all configurations of our baby fireguard will fold exactly like in the photo above. In some cases, it may be necessary to dismantle the guard to fold in the smallest way possible ( only takes a few seconds).

Baby proof double lock

Child Proof Double Locking System: The gate portion of the Multifit, uses a childproof double locking system that secures the gate at top and bottom but is possible for an adult to open with one hand. Just slide your thumb & Lift

Swing shut gate

Walkthrough and swing shut behind you to put the gate back to the locked position with ease. Ideal for high traffic areas or where one-handed operation is required.

Extend if required

If after purchasing the Multifit Fireguard you decide you would like to cover a larger area no problem - simply purchase a 20cm, 30cm, 49cm , 70cm or 90cm extension. See all extensions on this page 

Other features

No sharp corners: The Multifit is designed so that there are no sharp edges that could cause an injury to your child should bump into the gate. Furthermore, if positioned correctly and the correct size is purchased the gate will clear your hearth which is one of the most dangerous collision risks in your living room.

NonToxic Paint: As with all Babasafe baby safety products the Multifit is coated with paint that does not have harmful chemicals.
